Frequently Asked Questions

No. A GP referral is not required for a private consultation. Many patients self-refer. However, if you have already seen your GP, it can be helpful to bring any relevant letters, blood test results or treatment history to your appointment.

Yes. I work as a Consultant Dermatologist within the NHS.

NHS appointments are arranged via GP referral through local NHS pathways. NHS and private appointments are separate systems. I see NHS patients at The Horton Hospital, Banbury and The Churchill Hospital, Oxford.

During the consultation, I will take time to listen carefully to your concerns and review the history of your condition. A thorough examination of the skin or scalp is performed, often using dermoscopy to provide a closer view of lesions, hair follicles, or areas of inflammation. Once the findings are clear, I will explain the diagnosis, discuss any treatment options, and outline the next steps in a way that is practical and easy to understand. The goal is to leave you with a clear plan, reassurance, and confidence in the management of your condition.

To make the most of your appointment, it can be helpful to bring a brief history of your condition, including when it started, any changes you have noticed, and treatments or products you have tried. Photographs showing changes over time can also be useful, particularly for hair loss or skin lesions. Additionally, please bring a list of any medications, supplements, or relevant medical history, including previous dermatology assessments or test results if available. There is no need to stop your usual skin or hair care routines before the appointment.

My practice focuses on medical dermatology. If your concern is primarily cosmetic, I will advise whether it falls within my scope of practice or whether another specialist may be more appropriate.
