Verrucae / Warts

Warts and verrucae are caused by infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV). They appear as rough, thickened areas of skin and may occur on the hands, feet or other areas. In many cases they resolve spontaneously, although this can take months or years. Treatment is considered if lesions are painful, spreading or persistent, and may include topical therapies or cryotherapy.

What can I do prior to my appointment?

• Note how long the lesion has been present.

• Bring a list of treatments already tried.

• Avoid applying strong topical acids immediately before review.

This allows accurate examination of the lesion.
